What actually is a peptide?

A peptide is just a short chain of amino acids, the building blocks of proteins. Most are entirely natural: your body makes thousands of them, and insulin is a peptide.

Some are approved medicines, the GLP-1 weight-loss drugs like semaglutide are peptides. Many others are sold online as unapproved “research chemicals.” Knowing which is which is the whole game.

Cutting through the hype

The internet is full of peptide claims. Here’s what the evidence actually supports, and what it doesn’t.

Myth
"Peptides build muscle on their own"
Mostly false. Even growth-hormone peptides do little without training and protein. No peptide replaces the gym.
Myth
"If the FDA restricted it, it must work"
Forbidden-fruit fallacy. A restriction reflects missing human-safety data, not proof that something works.
Myth
"Research-use-only means it's been tested"
No. That label is a legal workaround, there's no quality control, dosing standard or human testing behind it.
Myth
"Epitalon is the fountain of youth"
Overstated. The telomerase / anti-ageing claims are unproven in humans, interesting early science, not a miracle.
